Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she’s a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.

Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire – and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.

With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London’s high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

Soulless is a comedy of manners set in Victorian London: full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking.

My Personal Review:

Alexia Tarabotti is not an average spinster. She’s more than eccentric, she’s unique. She has good taste and sense of decorum and -most important of all- she has the ability to negate supernatural powers. When she was rudely attacked by an unknown vampire, Alexia accidentally killed him. Now everyone wants answers and Alexia’s dance card is full of vampires, werewolves and villains alike.

Soon she realizes that this isn’t the first unknown vampire coming out of the blue and – even worst – known vampires are disappearing. So she decides to do some research. After all, she is smart and has a lethal parasol.

But is the gorgeous and testy Lord Maccon who is in charge of the official investigation and – if they continue to be found in suspicious and improper circumstances – they’ll have more things to worry about than solve the mystery.

On the bright side:

An alternative Victorian era full of supernatural beings and steampunk gadgets. Lovable characters. A subtle sense of humor worthy of Jane Austen and a Queen Victoria who does not mince words.

On the flip side:

Unfortunately, the lovely Alexia has a horrible family. Poor girl!

Overall:

A mystery story set in an alternative Victorian era – written in an elegant and humorous style – starring vampires, werewolves and a damsel to be reckoned with.

A thrilling read recommended for urban fantasy, paranormal and historical romance fans.

They’ll never see her coming. . .

When Evangeline Stone wakes up naked and bruised on a cold slab at the morgue – in a stranger’s body, with no memory of who she is and how she got there – her troubles are only just beginning. Before that night she and the two other members of her Triad were the city’s star bounty hunters, mercilessly cleansing the city of the murderous creatures living in the shadows, from vampires to shape-shifters to trolls. Then something terrible happened that not only cost all three of them their lives but also convinced the city’s other Hunters that Evy was a traitor – and she can’t even remember what it was.

Now she’s a fugitive, piecing together her memory, trying to deal some serious justice – and discovering that she has only three days to solve her own murder before the reincarnation spell wears off. Because in three days Evy will die again – but this time there’s no second chance. . .

My Personal Review:

Evangeline Stone was a bounty hunter. When the others members of her Triad were killed in an ambush she barely manage to escape. But somehow she died.

Now she came back from the dead with no memory and in the body of someone else. Soon she realizes that she must solve her own murder in order to clear her name and bring justice for her friends.

Fortunately, she can count on her former Handler’s help, and some reliable allies.

On the bright side:

A fast paced story set in a well constructed universe, with appealing characters (even minor characters) and a credible and coherent plotline. It has an unusual description of vampires.

On the flip side:

The male character wasn’t too much  atractive for me. Probably because Evi don’t see him with a romantic interest at first. The death of certain  minor character (an interesting one) is such a pitty! A very obvious traitor and a forced happy ending.

Overall:

Three Days to Dead is a fast paced story with a touch of mystery and romance. Recommended to Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy readers alike.

Digging out my favorites books and upsetting some booksellers in the process

I’m an avid reader and I’m always looking for new books to read.  I search on internet and walk by every bookstore on the radar, even book fairs at city parks. I usually annoy booksellers asking for books not mainstream they never heard about or rearranging bookshelves while digging out books. But my worst crime is that I love books with a happy ending. Life is too short to spend time reading depressing books!

In case you were wondering, I’m not a professional book reviewer. I don’t get paid for this. But I keep reading and reviewing just because. At this point, you’ve probably figured out that english is not my first language. I must say that it takes some effort to read books in other language. Usually that effort worths it!

And if you find some grammatical errors in my reviews, please feel free to tell me. Gently, off course.
